Centre for History and Archaeology

Centre for History and Archaeology (CHA) has been set up with the mission to tell the multi-layered stories of heritage and ancient site through our several innovative activities such exploration, documentation, archaeological excavation, conservation and promotion the pride of India- its cultural heritage on the belief that living in harmony with heritage enhances the quality of life. Centre shall promote in conducting archaeological exploration and excavation to acquire maximum retrievable information from the field within the given content of a well-designed program of research.

 

The Aims and Objectives of the Centre are as follows:

  • To sensitize the public about the pluralistic cultural legacy of India;

  • To instil a sense of social responsibility towards preserving India’s common heritage;

  • To protect and preserve India’s living, built, and natural heritage by undertaking necessary actions and measures;

  • To conduct archaeological excavation, exploration and heritage tourism;

  • To document unprotected buildings of archaeological, architectural, historic and aesthetic significance, as well as the cultural resources;

  • To develop heritage policies and regulations and make legal interventions to protect India’s heritage when necessary;

  • To provide expertise in the field of conservation, restoration and preservation of specific works of art; and encourage capacity-building by developing skills through training programmers’ and certificate courses;

  • To foster collaborations, Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and partnerships with government and other local, national and international agencies;

  • To generate sponsorships for conservation and educational projects;

  • To conduct conference seminars and lecture to aware people about our heritage; and

  • To offer large number of programmes for diverse stakeholder through its educational and outreach initiatives
